Atria Darien invites you to an opening wine and cheese reception at 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, celebrating the work of nearby artists Nash Hyon and Nancy McTague-Stock. The artists’ works will be on display throughout the month of October. The gallery is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nash Hyon
Nash Hyon maintains a studio in Wilton working in encaustics (hot wax) and mixed media, continually experimenting with non-traditional tools and techniques. Her primarily abstract paintings reflect her interest in nature, color, texture, process and the idea of transformation.

Atria Darien will be showing the work of Kim Lagana during the month of September and host an opening reception welcoming the public on Thursday, Sept. 6. Kim is a native of Norwalk. Retiring from teaching World Language in the Norwalk public school system for 35 years, he decided to go back to his interest in art. Being self-taught, he went through numerous periods of error and frustration.

Paintings by Jacky Fromentin, a French immigrant and retired chef, will be on display daily in the Gratia Gillespie Art Gallery at Atria Darien, 50 Ledge Road, through the month of August. Fromentin, who now lives in Connecticut, was born in the heart of Normandy in France’s lush countryside. He first learned cooking from his mother, who worked the land and kitchen of their modest hotel-home. Jacky went on to apprentice in Paris as a teenager, quickly progressing to work at the prestigious Plaza Athenee. When offered the chance to travel the world as a chef on the reputed French navy vessel, La Jeanne d’Arc, Jacky seized the opportunity.

‘Chef Showdown’ Cooking Competition Thursday Pits Atria Darien Chef Against Police Sergeant

Carrington Parker, director of culinary services at Atria Darien has challenged Darien Police Sgt. Keri Isaac to a cooking competition, part of Atria Senior Living’s annual “Chef Showdown.” The public, along with Atria residents and their families, is invited to attend the food duel, which starts at high noon and continues to 2 p.m., Thursday, July 19 at Atria Darien, 50 Ledge Road.  

“The competition will be fierce, no matter how you slice it,” predicted an announcement from Atria Darien. Chef Showdowns take place at more than 200 Atria senior communities in the United States and Canada.

Atria Darien cordially invites you to see the photography of Nanci Natale, on display daily for the rest of May in the Gratia Gillespie Art Gallery. An award winning photographer, Nancy’s portfolio includes sea, land and tree scapes, staged and poetic photography; architecture of interest, such as barns, etc.; catalog and still photos.  

Her photographs have appeared in the Darien News; the Darien Times, The Resident, Country, Fine Gardening, and other newspapers and magazines. Nanci’s work has been on display at Darien Rowayton Bank, Darien Donut and Artists at Grove Street Plaza. She also has been a staff photographer for Darien Blue magazine covering feature families and local events, such as the Chili Challenge and Darien Old Timer’s Athletic Association.

During the month of January Atria Darien at 50 Ledge Road will showcase the works of Greenwich artist Maia Sreseli-Hodge, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4. Born and raised in the nation of Georgia, she started painting not long ago. Maia says she just creates art that reflects what she loves, what she feels, what she sees, what she imagines. “My canvas is a reflection of my feelings, my dreams, my observations and imaginations,” she said.
