A stolen SUV with a smashed rear window was found parked at the Shell gas station at 164 Noroton Ave. on March 6 with plastic taped over the smashed window and a temporary New Jersey license plate where the original one had been, Darien police said.
Before the tan 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was reported to police at 8:32 a.m. on Monday, March 6, it had been parked at the gas station sometime between 11 p.m. on March 4 and 5 a.m. the next morning. The vehicle’s motor appeared to be damaged, and plenty of oil was seeping from it.
The SUV had been reported stolen on Jan. 1 from the Bronx. At that time, it had South Carolina license plates. The vehicle is registered to a Ridgeland, S.C. woman. The SUV was towed and New York City police were notified.
Darien police planned to look at video surveillance records from the gas station.
