Sara “Sally” Elisabeth Baker passed away on July 2, 2018. Born in Charleston, WV; raised in Darien and Rockport, MA, by the late Roland and Eleanor Glenn. She lived in New York City for 20 years and the last 25 in Arlington, VA.
She used her background in theater and her astute attention to detail to advance her career in public relations and event coordination at Philip Morris, Newsweek, the United Way, and The Diane Rehm Show.
Often adorned in her signature color purple, Sally traveled the globe. At 72, she never lost her independence, strength, sense of humor, and commitment to fun and adventure.
“The mention of her name always brought, and will always bring, a rush of good memories and a smile”, remembers Rick Smith, former Newsweek editor-in-chief and chairman.
She was a devoted Democrat who was passionate about voters’ rights and women’s rights. She was an avid gardener. As a Master Gardener and member of the Herb Society of America – Potomac Unit for the past 10 years, she lectured on growing vegetables and herbs and using them to make soaps and edibles. She will be sorely missed by both organizations where she had many friends and colleagues.

She was the beloved aunt to Ashley Hansen, Allison Hansen, Amy Ramsey, and Laura Ramsey but was known as Aunt Sally to many more. She was excited to be recently promoted to Great Aunt Sally by Noralene and Makayla Ramsey-Derer. She is also survived by her sisters Meg Glenn-Albiez of Newport News, VA; Nancy Glenn Hansen of Washington, DC.; and Rolene Ramsey of Clarksville, VA.
