Robert Wayne Plunkett, 96, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Waters Edge Assisted Living in Lake Wales, Fl. He was the husband of Ruth A. Ehrenfeld Plunkett who died in 2009.

Robert Plunkett, 96, passed away on June 26. He was buried on July 20.

He was born on June 3, 1920 in York, the son of James C. and Marion E. Smith Plunkett. Robert honorably served his country during World War II, having achieved the rank of corporal.

He was a member of an anti-aircraft battalion which destroyed or damaged more than 100 Japanese planes during the Battle of Leyte in the Philippines.

Robert was owner-operator of a furnace business in Darien and then of a ski lodge in Okemo Mountain, Vt. He later retired to Indian Lake Estates, Fl.

Mr. Plunkett is survived by two daughters, Priscilla A. “Pat” Huggins (Ed) of CT and Loraine Lyons of FL. He is survived by sixteen grandchildren and their children.

Mr. Plunkett was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Kwoka. Robert was the sole survivor of his immediate family of eleven children; sisters, Martha, Helen, Doris (Sis), Letha, Harriet, Phyllis; brothers, Rudolph (Rudy) and James; and by infants, Henry and Margaret.

Robert was laid to rest beside his wife, Ruth, at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on July 20.
