But there’s a lighter side to the job, as I wrote a few years ago, based on former conductor Michael Shaw’s great book, “My Rail Life” after he retired from a 36 year career on the New Haven line. He clearly loved his job. And he swears these stories are true.

A 30-year-old man arrested on an accusation he stole money and credit cards from a man’s locker at the Darien YMCA is “linked to similar crimes across multiple states,” Darien police said.

After Stamford police notified police in Darien that a driver in a traffic accident had fled into Darien on West Avenue, driving erratically in a Toyota Rav4.
Town police later charged the 34-year-old man with driving while intoxicated.

But not last Thursday evening, June 5, the hottest day of the year (so far), when the overhead catenary power lines were dragged down near Westport. No power means no trains.
