Dorothea Elizabeth Manegio of New Milford passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in Danbury. She was 88.
Dottie was born on Jan. 15, 1933 to the late William and Marion Ryan.
Dottie received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Hunter College in June 1956. While working at New York Bell, Dottie met Frank in their church choir in Yonkers, New York, and they were married on Sept. 15, 1956.
Together they raised five children, starting their family in Yonkers and then moving to Darien. Together, they also established Manegio Floor Covering in Darien. During this time, Dottie was a very active parishioner and choir member at St. John Roman Catholic Church.
She enjoyed singing with Frank in the Choir and was the chairman, for a number of years, of the St. John’s Christmas Dove Program, which was part of Darien’s townwide church-sponsored effort to provide food and Christmas cheer to the area’s needy families.
After retiring from Manegio Floor Covering, Frank and Dottie settled in New Milford in 2001.
Dottie is survived by her children: Dottie (Tom) Campbell, Frank Manegio, Jr. (Katrina), Kathy (Dave) Brown, Joyce (Mark) Sternberg and Elizabeth McDonald (John Shea); her 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Richard Manegio, Sr.; and sister-in-laws: MaryAnn Scavera, Sandy Stevens and Joyce Ann Manegio; along with many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Dottie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Frank Sr., as well as her daughter, Santa Manegio; her siblings: Eleanor Allen and Marion Cooper; and her granddaughter, Kirsten Meyer.
A Mass of Christian Burial for both Dottie and Frank will be held at 11 a.m., June 25, at Saint Gregory the Great Church in Danbury. The wearing of masks is requested for all who are attending.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to “Donate Life Connecticut” in Frank and Dottie’s names.
