New Series of Bereavement Support Group Meetings for Surviving Spouses Offered

Fairfield County House in Stamford is sponsoring a series of eight bereavement support group sessions focusing on coping with the loss of a spouse. Sessions are free of charge, but pre-registration is required. 
The Loss of a Spouse Support Group meets from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Mondays, Feb. 4 through March 25, 2019 at Fairfield County House, 1 Den Road, Stamford. Refreshments will be served. — an announcement from Fairfield County House
Leading the group will be the Rev. Karen Judd, a licensed clinical social worker with Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County and an interfaith minister.

Patten Jackson, originally from Darien and most recently of Cambridge, Massachusetts, has died at age 59. Born Dec. 17, 1959, he was the son of Anthony and Jane Jackson, both of whom are deceased. A beloved man with friends too numerous to count, Pat was a true Renaissance man — a master of the gentlemanly arts of a bygone era. He was esteemed for his rapier wit and sartorial elegance.

Jean Menetrey Edwards, 95, passed away with her family by her side on Jan. 25, 2019 at Cambridge Manor in Fairfield. She was born in Waterbury to Frank and Olive Woosley Menetrey. She was a direct descendant of Louis DuBois, a Huguenot settler & “patentee” of New Paltz, NY in 1678. Jean’s grandparents remembered family members coming down the Hudson River with barge loads of Rosendale hydraulic cement for construction of the piers of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Karen M. Simmons, a Darien resident, passed away on the morning of Friday, January 18, 2019 at Stamford Hospital. She was born in Stamford on July 19, 1951, and was one of five children born to the late Frederick and Marie (Benedetto) Simmons. Karen was a caring and fun loving person. She showed love and compassion towards the people she cared for and she adored animals. She is survived by her sister, Sandy Ambruso, and Sandy’s husband Frank; and her brother, Paul Simmons.

Alison Jayne Kelly, 58, of Safety Harbor, Florida, passed away on Sunday, January 13. She was born in Neptune, New Jersey on Aug. 5, 1960 and was the daughter of the late Eugene and Joan O’Brien Kelly. She lived in Asbury Park, New Jersey and Deal before moving to Mountainside, New Jersey where she spent her formative years. She graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes and attended Union Catholic High School.

Donald A. Rich, 81, of Darien passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, Jan. 14. He was born in Morristown, New Jersey on June 17, 1937 to the late Edward Henry and Lila Estler Rich. Donald attended Rutgers University, Art School of Newark, New Jersey, and The New York School of Interior Design in New York City. He worked as a residential and commercial interior designer for all of his professional career, owning Donald A. Rich Interiors & Antiques in Greenwich and New Canaan for the past several decades.

Ronald D. Wilson Sr., 85, of Durham, North Carolina passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, at Duke University Hospital after an extended illness. Ronald was born in Norwalk to Lelia Travers and George Wilson Sr. He graduated from Norwalk High School and joined the U.S. Navy. He married Elmira Darden in 1954 and their loving marriage bore eight children. Ronald was an industrious employee at several companies most notably UPS and the U.S. Postal Service in Darien.

Ann M. Nastasi passed away in her sleep on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019 at the age of 97. 

She was born in 1921 to Maria and Mario Russo, who had immigrated to the United States in the early 1900s. She grew up in Queens and worked for the New York Times, where she became secretary to the editor. She left her job and moved to Darien to marry her beloved John Nastasi. She continued reading the New York Times most of her life as she had been accustomed to reading it from cover to cover.
