To Stage or Not to Stage: That Is NOT the Question in 2018

In the ever-evolving world of real estate, home staging has become quite popular. In fact, the positive effect that it can have on a sale makes it feel quite essential in today’s market. As a homeowner, you may question the value of home staging, particularly when considering costs and the inconvenience of relocating your own furnishings, but time and time again, the behavior of prospective buyers has proven to clearly be influenced by appearances. Staging has proven to help a home sell faster and for a higher price, making for a larger return on investment. In past years, home stagers focused primarily on de-cluttering rooms and tweaking the arrangement of a homeowner’s existing furniture and décor into more attractive groupings.

How to Save What You Can as the Flood of Train Prices Rises Around You: Cameron on Transportation

Whether you’re a daily commuter, an occasional day-tripper or have friends visiting from out of town, everyone can save money when you go into New York City on Metro-North by following these tips:

TransitChek

Ask your employer to subscribe to this great service, which allows workers to spend up to $260 per month on transit using pre-tax dollars. If you’re in the upper tax brackets, that’s a huge savings. A recent survey shows 45 percent of all New York City companies offer TransitChek, which can be used on trains, subways and even ferries. Go off-peak

If your train arrives at Grand Central Terminal weekdays after 10 a.m. and you can avoid the 4 to 8 p.m. peak return hours, you can save 25 percent. Off-peak fares are in effect on weekends and holidays.

Darien’s Heather Raker is spearheading efforts to raise funds for the Mather Homestead to restore the historic home’s colonial gardens. The Mather Homestead was built in 1778 and owned by the Mather family through seven generations, until 2017 when it was donated to The Mather Homestead Foundation thanks to the generosity of the McPherson family. The home is rich in history and open for public enjoyment and education. Stephen Mather, great-grandson of Deacon Joseph Mather, was an environmentalist and the founder and first director of our National Parks Service. The original garden, which was designed by Stephen Mather himself, included both native plants and specimens from his work across the United States with National Park Service.
