Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated on Monday, Jan. 16.  Here’s what’s open and closed for the weekend (all links go to Web pages confirming information on whether or not there is a holiday closing for that organization):

Friday, Jan. 13

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles “major customer service offices” like the one in Norwalk close early on Friday, Jan. 13 — at 12:30 p.m. The workers get Saturday off, when the DMV will be closed, and DMV offices are always closed on Mondays. They’ll reopen Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 7:45 a.m. As of Jan. 1 of this year, you can no longer go to AAA offices for any DMV services in Fairfield or New Haven counties.

Saturday, Jan. 14

We know of nothing closed for Saturday except the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles offices. You can no longer get any DMV services at local AAA offices in Fairfield or New Haven counties, at any time.

Monday, Jan. 16, Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Almost all stores are expected to be open.

Many banks will be closed, including Bank of America, Citibank, People’s United Bank, TD Bank and Wells Fargo Bank.

TRANSPORTATION

Metro-North trains will operate on a Saturday schedule.

Service continues as usual on CTTransit buses serving Darien and Stamford.

There will be no service on Norwalk Transit District buses.

The New York Stock Exchange will be closed.

MLK Holiday closure town hall 01-13-17

Notice seen Thursday on the front door of Darien Town Hall.

Darien Public Schools will be closed.

Darien Nature Center will be closed.

Darien town government offices will be closed.

Darien Library will be open.

Darien Recycling Center/Transfer Station/Town Dump will be open.

The Darien Community Association will be open.

The Darien YMCA will be open.

Connecticut state offices will be closed.

U.S. government offices will be closed.

The Post Office will be closed and there will be no regular mail service.

The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk will be open.

Stepping Stones Museum for Children will be open.

Bruce Museum in Greenwich will be open.

Stamford Museum and Nature Center will be open.
