A record-breaking 300 canned and dry goods were collected for Person-to-Person’s pantry at the recent “Thanksgiving Sing” at the Methodist Family Center Preschool. — an announcement from the Methodist Family Center Preschool

On a bright and unseasonably warm November morning, the MFCP welcomed the school’s families to the Thanksgiving Sing, a cherished annual tradition that had been canceled last year due to COVID-19 restrictions. The ‘Sing’ as it is affectionately called, concluded a month-long food drive in partnership with Person to Person’s Darien Pantry and their mobile food pantry, P2P On Wheels. Children ages 3 to 5 began the Sing by bringing their food donations and placing them in a basket. “Listening to the children sing reminds us of how blessed we are to come together on a gorgeous day with the sole purpose of being thankful,” said MFCP Director Laurie Anderson.

During the pandemic, the organization has had a 71% increase in its food assistance programs for the people it helps in Darien and the surrounding area, and it hasn’t been able to use one of its biggest food donation programs, the Postal Food Drive, the organization said. “We need your help to fill our pantries,” P2P said in an announcement. “Please contribute to our Spring Food Drive this Saturday, start a virtual food drive, or donate to our food program. Thank you!”

Person-to-Person CEO: Thanks to Support, Groceries for 1.9 Million Home-Cooked Meals Given Out in 2020

To the Editor:
Person-to-Person (P2P) would like to thank the community for supporting the record levels of assistance it has provided since the start of the pandemic. In 2020, P2P’s emergency assistance programs provided groceries to prepare 1.9 million home-cooked meals, over $850,000 in financial support and holiday programs to support families and individuals struggling to make ends meet. Over 2,000 winter coats were distributed in partnership with Beiersdorf’s Keep Norwalk Warm event, more than double last year’s distribution. And rather than cancel its annual Toy Store, P2P created a winter wonderland drive-through distribution so 2,000 children could receive board games, books, stuffed animals and gift cards for toys. We would like to acknowledge the many businesses, groups and individuals that hosted donation drives, raised funds or volunteered to make these holiday events successful.
