In Darien, July 3 to 5: Four Vehicles Entered, Three Stolen, Two Recovered, One Wallet Missing

From early morning on Wednesday, July 3 to late in the day on Friday, July 5, four vehicles were entered in town, three were stolen, including one from a supermarket parking lot, and two were found — one close by and the other in Bridgeport, police said. The owner of a 2016 Volvo XC90 told police that the SUV had been entered in the early morning by a suspect dressed in black. Police were called and spoke to the owner at about 1 p.m. on July 4. The victim discovered that the vehicle had been entered and rifled through. Nothing was reported stolen.

Three different residents reported to Darien police on the same day that their home surveillance cameras showed thieves trying the door handles of their cars, which were parked outside, overnight. But each of the three owners had done the one simple thing that caused the thieves to give up and leave. No cars entered, nothing stolen. They actually locked their doors. The three incidents happened overnight from Friday to Saturday, Feb.

These two incidents involving thieving a parked vehicle and an attempt at thieving from another were reported to Darien police on Tuesday, Jan. 30 — one early in the morning, the other late at night:

—At 6:29 a.m., police responded to a report of a stolen front license plate at The Royle of Darien, a senior housing development at 719 Post Road. The victim told police that the theft occurred overnight. —At about 11:16 p.m., the owner of a vehicle parked at a home on Brookside Road (between its intersections with Three Wells Lane and Marianne Road) told police that she’d found when she entered it that every part of the interior had been rummaged through. The vehicle had been unlocked.
