Joseph Bruce Magliari “Joe”, 82, passed away at home in Darien on Feb. 26, 2025. Joe was born in Stamford on October 31, 1942, son of the late Joseph and Margaret (DeCostanzo) Magliari. Joe proudly grew up on Stamford’s West Side and was a graduate of Stamford High School (‘60) then Wright Technical School (’61) and spent six years serving in the National Guard. After graduation Joe took to master his trade and became a well-respected barber in Wilton, retiring as owner/operator of Village Barber Shop in 2014 after 52 years.

Rolf H. Swensen passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, in Darien. Rolf was a man of wide-ranging interests and deep intellect. He enjoyed hiking, camping, swimming, reading, gardening, and playing both the piano and the organ. A marvelous storyteller and conversationalist, he brought insight and warmth to every conversation. He swam three times a week and walked six miles a day, delighting in the outdoors and forming close bonds with neighbors — especially their dogs, whose names he knew and to whom he generously offered treats.

Keith Flake Baity passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in Bedford, New Hampshire, at the age of 68. Keith was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Oct. 26, 1956, and was the identical twin of John Cooley Baity Jr.. He grew up in Larchmont and Rye, New York, and attended Deerfield Academy from 1970 to 1974. He graduated from Princeton University in 1978 and went on to earn his MBA from Columbia Business School in 1982.

Clelio M. Improta, Jr. “Clo”, age 89, of Osprey Florida, passed away March 8, after a long and valiant battle with kidney disease. Clo was born in Darien to the late Clelio M. Improta, Sr. and Elena (Frate) Improta. He attended Darien schools and graduated from Darien High School (Class of 1954), where he played varsity football. He later attended Michigan State University, where he met the love of his life and mother of his children, Ann K. (Krieg) Improta, recently celebrating 66 years of marriage. Following graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, Clo went on to serve in the U.S. Army.

Born in Frolesworth, England, on Aug. 24, 1934, Rosemary was the eldest of five children of Joseph (Sr.) and Dorothy (Rose) Tallis. She met her husband of 65 years, David Quill, while he was stationed at RAF Mildenhall.

June Elizabeth Roberts, 96, of Stamford went home to her Lord and God on March 18, 2025. She passed peacefully after several years of failing health. Born June 21, 1928, in South China, Maine to George E. and Mary E. (Huston) Roberts, she was the second of three daughters. Her sisters, Mary Carolyn (Roberts) Chenowith and Helen Lane (Roberts) Moger, predeceased her. June graduated from the Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville, Maine and proceeded to Boston University to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music education.

She was able to recognize when others were in need and never hesitated to help. She faced the difficulties of Parkinson’s disease with the same grace and optimism that defined her life.

Known for her quiet grace and elegance, she will be remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and grandmother. Born in Weehawken, New Jersey, the youngest of two daughters of the late Augustus Joseph Martin and Marie Byrne Martin, Rita was raised in Manhasset, New York, where she attended St. Mary’s Elementary and Middle School. Noted for her charm, Rita received accolades as Miss Manhasset of Long Island and Ms. Arnold Constable 1948.

Marjolein Strikwerda McLachlin, mother, wife, sister, dancer, teacher, and beloved friend, passed away on Feb. 11, the morning of her 69th birthday. Born in Amsterdam to Peter and Sienie Strikwerda, after marrying her American husband Harry in 1985 she moved to and made her home in the U.S. for 40 years. Pursuing a career in education, she found her calling in the classroom and taught elementary school in Amsterdam; Evanston, Illinois; and finally for over 15 years at Pear Tree Point School in Darien. She brought creativity and care to her classes, and particularly enjoyed teaching social science units on ancient Rome, sharing the Dutch tradition of Sinterklaas with her students, and learning about Montessori teaching methods.

(now Wells Fargo Bank).
