Martha Best Yorke Lawson passed away peacefully at home on New Years’ Day, Monday, Jan. 1. She was born on May 5, 1928, in Concord, N.C., to Aaron Jones Yorke III and Martha Best Yorke. Mrs. Lawson attended St. Mary’s School in Raleigh and then graduated in 1949 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.

Maria Pagliarulo, who most recently resided at Sugar Hill in Dalton, Mass., passed peacefully on Dec. 7, 2017. Born Oct. 6, 1925 in Tremunsuoli, Italy, she was the daughter of Maddalena (Tuccinardi) and Luciano Granata. Following World War Two, she immigrated to the United States.

Elaine Ruth Berman passed away peacefully at her home in Santa Monica on Dec. 8, 2017 after a long struggle with cancer. To the end of her days she lived her life with grace and dignity, with care for others, and with love for — and of — her family. She was born Elaine Ruth Kreiner on Dec. 18, 1936, the daughter of Anthony James Kreiner and Adeline Helen Kreiner (nee Helwig), in Cleveland.

Mary Hyde Jenkins Ryan of Clarendon, Vt., died peacefully on Dec. 5, surrounded by her husband and family. She was 69 years old. “Hyde,” or “Heidi” to her family and friends, was born in Greenwich to William P. Jenkins and Mary-Seymour Pynchon. She grew up in Rowayton and Darien with her older brother, William P. Jenkins Jr., and younger brother, Jonathan W. Jenkins.

James M. Baker, husband of Katharin Harvey Baker, passed away Saturday Nov. 18 at Atria Assisted/Senior Living in Darien. Born on Dec. 12, 1921 in New York City, he was the son of James A. and Lavinia Baker. Jim attended Kings School in Stamford and the Gunnery Prep School in Washington, Conn., where he enjoyed playing tennis and hockey. During World War II, James served his country in the Navy with the rank of First Class Petty Officer, performing the duties of a sonar technician from 1942-1945.
