At 4:38 p.m. the Darien Registrars of Voters Office released the count of both absentee ballots, ballots from newly registered voters and votes cast at polling stations around town. The vote count had been stopped by the head moderator for the vote count on Tuesday night. Both Susan Gray, the Democratic registrar, and John Visi, the Republican registrar, said they didn’t know why the count had been stopped, but the Secretary of the State’s Office had consented to it. At that time, the two registrars expected the vote count to resume late the next morning and perhaps be over by 12 noon. Instead, the count stopped again by the head moderator, who left the registrars office for a time.

This election is not about you vs. me or blue vs. red, this is about every citizen of Darien and what’s best for our community. We need leaders who will listen to and represent every single one of us. We need leaders who are empathetic, respectful, solution seeking and forward thinking, such as Marcy Minnick.

Please support candidates Monica McNally, Jon Zagrodzky and Marcy Minnick for the Darien Board of Selectmen. Darien is fortunate to have three proven leaders that are ready to help lead our well managed Town into the future. As Darien faces increased pressure from Hartford to take more from Darien and give us less, these three, with Monica as the leader, are the critical voices our Town needs. Monica has given back to Darien ever since she arrived in town. She is currently a selectman and has a strong background in finance.

I‘ve lived in Darien for 35 years and served as a public official for 28 years (12 years on the Representative Town Meeting and 16 years as your town treasurer). But, I’ve never heard of the situation that occurred on Sept. 26! That day, two U.S. senators and a U.S. congressmen came to Darien to insert themselves into our First Selectman race supporting the Democratic candidate. Why so involved in our small town of about 21,000 people and a local political race?

First Selectman candidate Monica McNally, and Board of Selectmen candidates Jon Zagrodzky and Marcy Minnick are the team that will continue lead Darien to be a town people want to move to, raise a family, shop, dine, open a business and retire in. Monica, currently on the Board of Selectmen, has been giving back to the town for over 25 years. As a community advocate, she was a founding member of OPUS and president of the YWCA Women‘s Club. Elected to the RTM eight years ago, she quickly rose to the leadership roles of vice-chair of the Rules Committee and chaired the Public Works Committee. Importantly, Monica has a solid foundation in finance, having worked as a financial consultant for Smith Barney.
