Officially named the “2015 UBS Parade Spectacular,” the parade can get crowded in downtown Stamford (last year, 100,000 people showed up, according to organizers), so you may want to get there early.

Here’s the announcement from the Stamford Downtown Special Services District website:

Something gigantic is coming to Stamford Downtown. The UBS Parade Spectacular, Presented by Stamford Town Center and The Advocate, comes to Stamford on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 12 noon.

Among the many balloons, Daniel Tiger and Kung Fu Panda will make their debut this year. Don’t miss our Master of Ceremonies, Television Personality Alan Kalter.

Award winning marching bands will add pazzaz to the day. The Sacred Heart University Marching Band, Westhill and Stamford High School marching bands will march along with bands including Brentwood, Harrison, Uniondale High Schools and the NYPD Emerald Society Pipe & Drum Band and other marching bands and dance groups from all over Connecticut and New York.

So don’t let the parade pass you by, step off is at 12 noon on November 22 in Stamford Downtown. The parade route starts on Summer Street at Hoyt and ends on Atlantic Street. The parade route is just a few short blocks from the Stamford Metro-North Railroad Station, which provides frequent service from the north and south.

Stamford’s annual holiday balloon parade started twenty-two years ago and has become one of the largest events of its kind in the country, with giant helium balloons floating through Stamford Downtown. Last year it drew over 100,000 people, not only Stamford residents, but also spectators from the surrounding region and even nearby states.

The giant balloons, of course, are the showstoppers of our parade. The American Bus Association announced that the Parade Spectacular has been named to the Top 100 Events across the country for 2010 and the Parade also won that award in 2007 and 2001.

Moffly Publications awarded the Parade Spectacular a “Best of the Gold Coast” award for the “Most Uplifting Event in CT.” in 2007.

And don’t miss the Balloon Inflation Party sponsored by Point72 Asset Management on Saturday, November 21 from 3 to 6 p.m. on Hoyt Street at Summer.

Get a backstage look at the balloons as they come to life. Music, dancing with Locust Performing Arts Center of Stamford, and costumed characters will greet and delight spectators. So, don’t let the parade pass you by!

The UBS Parade Spectacular starts on Summer and Hoyt Streets at 12 noon sharp on November 22. The Parade proceeds south on Summer, East on Broad, then South on Atlantic Street. It ends at Federal Street.

Come early for the best viewing seats. Many spectators find it worthwhile to bring their own folding chairs for more comfortable viewing. Please call the DSDD at 203-348-5285 or email events@stamford-downtown.com to volunteer for parade duty.
