Issues confronting kids in the Digital Age, including cyberbullying, suicidal ideation and online predators, are the subject of a documentary, “Childhood 2.0,” followed by a question-and-answer session this Tuesday, April 22 at Darien Library.

The event is jointly sponsored by the library, OK To Delay Darien, Darien Depot and Thriving Youth Darien this Tuesday evening, April 22.

6 to 7:45 p.m. — Watch the documentary

If you are unable to attend the screening, you can watch the film ahead of time (see links, below) and attend the Q&A portion.

The library’s announcement says “‘Childhood 2.0’ is required viewing for anyone who wants to better understand the world their children are navigating as they grow up in the digital age.

“Featuring actual parents and kids as well as industry-leading experts in child safety and development, this documentary dives into the real-life issues facing kids today — including cyberbullying, online predators, suicidal ideation, and more.”

8 to 9 p.m. Virtual Q&A with Katey McPherson

Following the screening, you can discuss the film with Katey McPherson who will be on Zoom on the big screen for a Q&A.

The screening starts at 6 p.m. and runs to 7:45. The virtual Q&A runs from 8 to 9 p.m.,

About Katey McPherson

McPherson currently serves as the director of professional development for Bark for Schools, an artificial intelligence app that protects over 5 million children while they use personal and school-issued devices.

Katey brings experience in school leadership, prevention, and organizational change with 25 years as a secondary school teacher, guidance counselor, and PK-12 school administrator.

The focus of her educational career is on student and teacher social and emotional wellness and support. She has worked diligently on several youth mental health initiatives and laws, delivers professional development to learning communities with a focus on creating adaptive coping skills and resiliency, and she speaks to students to increase their awareness and education in digital citizenship/social media responsibility.
