The body of Rachel, a miniature pinscher missing from a home at Hollow Tree Ridge and Crooked Mile roads since Dec. 3, was found on Saturday by a neighbor on Sherry Lane, about 1,400 feet to the north, the dog’s owner said.
“We feel blessed to have her body returned home,” Paula Nusslein said in an email. “I know many people never find their pets. The idea of never knowing what happened to them is haunting. She will be cremated and we will spread her ashes.”
The 7-year-old miniature pinscher weighed 12 pounds. Apparently it was killed by a coyote, Nusslein said.
The Nussleins had offered a $500 reward for her return, and they thought the dog may have lost her collar in the woods, and someone might have been caring for her without notifying veterinarians or the town animal control officer.
“She is deeply missed by her entire family,” Nusslein said last month.
