Programs for adults on dealing with children’s depression and anxiety, mental health problems, approaching the college search and maintaining a healthy control over kids are coming up at The Depot youth center on Heights Road:

Coffee & Conversations – Depression and Anxiety in Youth

Thursday, Oct. 8 — 7  to 8:30 p.m.

What does it Look Like and When Is It a Problem? With Dr. Aaron Krasner and Tracey Masella, LCSW. Tracey will provide an overview of signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety, and how to move forward in addressing these issues.

Mental Health First Aid Training

Saturday, Oct. 10 and 11 — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., both days

The 12 hour, two part, nationally certified course helps individuals and communities better understand mental health issues. This course is also designed to provide people with key skills to help someone experiencing a mental health crisis.

Depot LogoLike CPR training helps a non-medical professional assist an individual following a heart attack, mental health first aid training helps an individual who doesn’t have clinical training assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis.

Course fee is $50 and includes a three-year certification in MHFA, 2 day training, MHFA book and handouts. Sponsored by the Darien Depot and Stamford Hospital. Please contact Dawn Roy, LCSW, ladyroy@earthlink.net, with any questions.

It’s the Student, Not the College with author Kristin White

Wednesday, Oct. 2 — 7 to 8 p.m.

Kristin M. White has helped hundreds of parents and students look beyond the dream-school hype and focus on what’s most important. Now, in “It’s the Student, Not the College,” she shows how to avoid unrepayable debt and set yourself up to grow, excel, and enjoy yourself at any school.

StraightTalk – Empowering Parents Establishing and Maintaining Healthy Control

Wednesday, Oct. 28 — 7 to 8 p.m.

Most Middle School parents agree that a day at the office is far easier than one on the home front! Maud Purcell and Greg Doll — from The Life Solution Center of Darien — lead an informal and interactive parent discussion about how it is possible to establish healthy control over your kids by seeing and enforcing age-appropriate boundaries and rules, and providing lessons in character development.
