A car driven by a Stamford man struck a tree on Hollow Tree Ridge Road near its intersection with Camp Avenue, then rolled over onto its roof, closing the roadway sometime before 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29.

Police did not report any injuries to the driver, a resident of Birchwood Road in Stamford, but the roadway was closed for a time, as police said on Twitter at 9:59 a.m. that day.

The driver was charged with making an improper turn, and police said he was traveling too fast for road conditions.

The driver told police he was traveling south on Hollow Tree Ridge Road and didn’t remember what happened after driving around a curve just before striking the tree in front of 531 Hollow Tree Ridge Road.

Police said evidence at the scene showed the car had struck a tree. At the base of the tree debris from the vehicle were found.

Police generally have not issued news releases (even when tweets have been posted) about road closures after motor vehicle accidents, with the exception of one about an accident on Sunday, which was issued on Wednesday.
