Michael Belfield duPont, 66, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 11.
Michael was born Oct. 9, 1955 in Wilmington, Delaware. He was the son of Katharine Lewars (duPont) Weymouth and Reynolds du Pont. He attended Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey and graduated from Ithaca College.
Michael’s passion for volunteer work was spread across his active involvement with the local chapter of the American Red Cross, Darien Arts Center, Shakespeare on the Sound, as well as helping originate the sailing program at Wee Burn Country Club.
His wonderful sense of humor, contagious smile, willingness to help others, undying love of family and loyalty to friends will serve as reminders of his amazing spirit.
Michael is survived by his wife, Constance Carpenter Deans; his sons: Michael Belfield duPont Jr. and his wife, Meg; Edward Reynolds duPont and his wife, Lauren; and Bennett Lammot duPont; his sister, Katharine duPont Sanger; his brothers, Reynolds duPont, Jr. and Thomas Lewars duPont and Thomas’ wife, Ruth, and sister, Natalie duPont Lyon; his wife’s children: Emily, Trevor, Spencer and his wife, Taryn; and his grandson, Brian Leonard duPont. Michael was predeceased by his daughter, Emily Arden duPont.
The family is most grateful to the years of care given at Meadow Ridge and Ridge Crest, as well as recent care at Danbury Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, and Norwalk Hospital intensive care unit.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1864 Post Road, Darien. Burial will follow on Friday, Dec. 17 for the family at Mather Cemetery in Darien.
