Lenore J. (Walton) Close, a lifelong resident of Darien, passed away on Monday, March 19 at The Nathaniel Witherell nursing home in Greenwich. She was 91.

Lenore Close, 91, passed away on March 19. Her funeral will be held April 7.

Born on April 19, 1926 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Eri B. and Anna (Hudson) Walton.

Lenore graduated from Darien High School and Paine Hall School in New York City. She served as a nursing assistant, before marriage and children.

Lenore married George Everett Close, of Stamford, on Nov. 4, 1950. George and Lenore were wed at Union Memorial Church, where she was a lifetime member, choir member and soloist. She was well known for her “golden vocal chords.” Lenore and George were married for 46 years until his passing in 1997.

In her senior years, Lenore, and George volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels. Lenore also volunteered at the Darien Thrift Store.

Lenore is survived by her four daughters, Norene Hartog and husband, Gary of Rowayton; Lisa Ann Close of Beverly, Mass.; Cynthia Jean Close of Norwalk; and Deborah Larson and her husband, Donald, of Rescue, Ca.; and four grandchildren: Gary G. Hartog Jr., Daniel C. Larson, Erica C. Larson, and Timothy W. Larson; and four nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., April 7, 2018 at Union Memorial Church, 58 Church St., Stamford 06906.
