The Darien Arts Center is teaming up with the Open Arts Alliance to provide a unique performance opportunity for ages 8 to 15.
Broadway Beat, directed by Rocco Natale, executive director of the Open Arts Alliance, is a 30-minute variety show that will give every performer their moment to shine.

The musical revue is a tribute to the Broadway musical and features songs from Hairspray, Grease, the King and I, Wicked, Rent, The Music Man and more.
Auditions for Broadway Beat take place on Sept. 5 at the Darien Arts Center and should be scheduled by emailing Maria Pizzarello, DAC theatre director, at Maria@darienarts.org by Sept. 4.
Rehearsals will be held on Mondays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., September 10th through November 5th. Tech and performance take place take place on November 9th and 10th in the DAC Weatherstone Studio.
Founder of the Open Arts Alliance, Rocco Natale is the 2017 Moffly Media “Light A Fire” Award winner for arts engagement. A Newington-Cropsey Fellowship recipient for dramatic writing and research, Natale is a playwright and director.
His plays have been performed internationally and stateside, and he has worked at The Cherry Lane Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop’s 4th Street Theatre, Inside Broadway, Urban Stages and Arena Stages.
His adaptations of Great Expectations and K.C.@Bat are published by YouthPLAYS and his play Smoke Signals holds the distinction of receiving the Siff Grant for educational performance.
A semi-finalist in the Eugene O’Neill National Playwright’s Conference and Premiere Stages, Natale has worked with Signature Theatre Company, Arena Stage, Mirror Repertory Company, The University of Connecticut and Shakespeare on the Sound.
Natale holds an M.A. and B.A. from New York University; CAS from The University of Bridgeport, has completed a BMI Musical Theatre Workshop and has been a guest lecturer on playwriting at Sacred Heart University.
Fee for participating in the production of Broadway Beat is $325, plus a $35 registration fee.
