Julianne Mary Summerton, a lifelong resident of Darien, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 at Stamford Hospital. She was 71.
Born in 1950 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Bertha (Lasko) Summerton.
Julianne attended St John’s Parochial School in Stamford, and graduated from Darien High School in 1968. She attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in education and obtained her Masters Degree from Fairfield University.
Julianne held various jobs in Fairfield County while working on her Masters degree. After receiving her master’s degree she was employed by the City of Norwalk at Jefferson Elementary School where she worked for many years, as a teacher in the special education department, eventually moving to Kendall School.
Julianne also worked at the Darien Car Wash, and Regency Limousine, Inc., helping with the family business.
She is survived by her brother, Stephen M Summerton, Sr., and his wife Carol, of Darien; her nephew, Stephen M Summerton Jr., and his wife Tami, of Riverside; and her niece, Andrea Summerton Perrella, and her husband, Vincent III, of Brooklyn, New York; and her niece Karen Summerton, of Darien; four great-nephews: Spencer Summerton, Vincent Perrella, IV, Ryan Summerton and Wyatt Summerton; four great-nieces: Sophia Perrella, Natalie Summerton, Emma Perrella and Olivia Perrella. And most important of all, her cat companion, “Dudebro .”
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday Feb. 9, 2022 at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 10 at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 374 Middlesex Road. A live stream will be available through St. Thomas More Church’s website. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Stamford Hospital for the excellent care they gave to Julianne.
