Two nighttime bridge maintenance projects on Interstate 95 will close some lanes, slowing traffic from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. in May and June, but the projects, as scheduled, aren’t expected to take place at the same time.

And then there’s the near shutoff of the highway around Exit 9 in the first two weekends of June.

The first project, in East Norwalk, will close some northbound lanes (not southbound) between Exits 14 and 17 from May 6 to 17. The second project, in Darien, will close lanes in both directions in the area around the Noroton Avenue bridge from June 13 to July 19.

  • And don’t forget: The first two weekends in June will be horrible on I-95 as the Exit 9 Bridge is replaced, with half of the superstructure being replaced one weekend, and the other half on the other weekend. You can see the big spans now at Exit 9.
  • Only one lane will be open for each side of the highway, day and night and it will use the exit and entrance ramps, and the temporary roadway already built near the Darien side of the bridge)

East Norwalk: May 6 to 17, Northbound

Expect lane closures on I-95 northbound lanes between Exit 14 (South Norwalk) and Exit 17 (Westport/Saugatuck) from Monday evening, May 6 to early Friday morning, May 17, state Rep. Terrie Wood on Wednesday announced in an email to constituents.

Structural steel repairs to the East Avenue Bridge over I-95 (at Exit 16) are the reason. The repair work is scheduled for Monday through Thursday evenings between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Noroton: June 13 to July 19

The Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced that a nighttime bridge maintenance project will be performed on I-95 northbound and southbound in Darien, Monday, June 13, through Friday, July 19, 2019.

The highway lane closures are the result of maintenance work and repairs to concrete on Bridge No. 42, which takes Noroton Avenue over the highway. No lane closures on Noroton Avenue have been announced.

Lane closures will take place on stretches of the highway between Exit 9 and Exit 11.

Like the work in Norwalk, the repair work is scheduled for Monday through Thursday evenings between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

No lane closures will occur from 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3 until 8 p.m. Monday, July 8 (for the extended Independence Day weekend).

Drivers should be aware that the schedules may change and a safe speed is a good idea near the work site.
