The flu vaccine is now available on Oct. 25 and on Election Day, Nov. 6 at Darien Town Hall. You can also get one on Nov. 8 at Darien Library or just stop in at some stores in the area. We’ve got a list below.

Otherwise, you can always schedule an appointment with your doctor.

Darien Health Department

At the Darien Health Department flu clinics, all vaccine is preservative free and available to anyone over three years old. A high-dose vaccine for seniors is available, too, according to an announcement from Darien Health Department

The cost of flu vaccine is $30, payable by check or cash. The Health Department accepts  ConnictiCare insurance and traditional Medicare Part B ONLY and does not participate with any of the Medicare Advantage Plans.

You can schedule an appointment with the Darien Health Department public health nurse through the online scheduler or come to one of these following clinics:

  • Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Mather Center at Darien Town Hall
  • Vote & Vax: Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018 from 3  to 7 p.m. in Room 119 of Darien Town Hall
Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County

If you don’t make either of those clinics, you can go to Darien Library from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 8 for a flu clinic conducted by the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County. That flu shot will cost $50, or $70 for a high-dose vaccination, available for those age 65 and over.

Visiting Nurse & Hospice “will bill directly to Medicare Part B, Aetna, Anthem, Connecticare, Harvard Pilgrim, Multi Plan or Wellcare, if you have insurance from any of those providers.

Walgreens, CVS, Costco, Stop & Shop, ShopRite

Walgreens is also offering flu shots. You can make an appointment online here. “Get your flu shot and get a coupon to earn a $10 reward on your next purchase of $30 or more. Reward good on future purchase,” Walgreens says on its website.

If you’re a veteran registered with the Veterans Administration, you can get a free flu shot at Walgreens.

Here are three other places in the area where you can get flu shots, no appointment necessary (check out the Web page first, where you might find a permission form you can fill out at home and bring to the store pharmacy:

—Costco in Norwalk  offers flu shots. The basic influenza vaccination costs $19.99.

—Shoprite, with stores in Norwalk and Stamford, offers flu shots.

—You can also get a flu shot at Stop & Shop supermarkets, but not the ones in Darien, which don’t have pharmacies. The one at 350 Connecticut Ave. in Norwalk offers flu shots, no appointment necessary.

—Some CVS locations offer flu shots, but we couldn’t find one especially close to Darien.
