Contractors working for Eversource will begin installing gas lines at two spots in town — on Ledge Road and Greenwood Avenue — starting Monday, April 9, as part of a significant natural gas expansion in town.
With work beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m., the crews will start at the intersection of Ledge Road and the Post Road on Monday, working up to the transfer station and town Public Works Garage.
— an announcement from Darien Police
The project will continue throughout the spring and summer months.
On Greenwood Avenue
Also on Monday, work will start on Greenwood Avenue between Camp Avenue and Hoyt Street.
“This will require the temporary closure of Greenwood Avenue during the normal work day,” a Darien police announcement said.
“Only residents of Greenwood Avenue and guests of residents will be allowed access and exit during the work day,” according to the announcement. “Non-residents and all through traffic will use Camp Avenue and Hoyt Street to move through the area.
“The daily closure of Greenwood Avenue is expected to last a week to 10 days. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.”
Later in the project, gas lines will be installed on Hoyt Street (state Rt. 106) from Greenwood Avenue north to the New Canaan town line (about 1.3 miles) and on West Avenue from the area of Brown Street east towards Leroy Avenue (about 1.8 miles).
Police on Site
Darien police officers and traffic agents will be at the scenes of these projects to help keep traffic flow safe and orderly through and around the construction areas.
The Police Department is asking that all drivers plan trips through the construction areas and consider alternate routes if possible.
“We thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience,” the announcement said.
Further traffic advisories and updates will be issued as required. Traffic related questions concerning this project can be directed to Administrative Services Captain Don Anderson at (203) 662-5312 or via email at danderson@darienct.gov.
