A large tree limb falling on the Post Road shortly before 1 p.m. last Monday, Nov. 21, hit cars headed in both directions and resulted in one of the drivers being taken by ambulance to Stamford Hospital, police said.

The incident on the windy day occurred near the Post Road’s intersection with Hedge Row, not far west of Hindley School. The limb damaged the roof and left front door of a passing 2016 Honda Civic driven by a 36-year-old Stamford woman, who had been driving east on the road.

The woman told police she had back pain and was taken by Darien EMS-Post 53 to Stamford Hospital.

The limb also damaged a passing 2013 Chevrolet Malibu being driven in the opposite direction by a 52-year-old Stamford man. The limb caused significant damage to the front bumper and right front wheel well of his car.

Trees along the Post Road, which is also U.S. Route 1, may be owned by either residents living along the street or the state, police said.
