Art Gottlieb, LCSW will speak about the Battle of the River Plate at Darien Senior Center on  Tuesday, Jan, 15 at 12:30 p.m.

In the early days of World War II, the German warship Graf Spee was cornered in the South Atlantic by three Royal Navy cruisers and, after a running battle, fled into the neutral port of Montivedeo, Uruguay.

Believing to be outnumbered and unable to escape, Graf Spee’s captain ordered his own ship destroyed rather than surrender to the British.
