Some money was stolen from the DCA Thrift Shop overnight from Sunday to Monday, Sept. 6 to 7, and a gas station in town was entered overnight from Sept. 10 to 11, but nothing was apparently missing in that incident, police said.
According to police:
DCA Thrift Shop, 996 Post Road
At 7:45 a.m., police received a report from someone at the thrift shop who told them that when she arrived at the store, she noticed the deadbolt to an outside door was in the open position.
She went to the cash register, where she found that an envelope containing cash was missing. Nothing else in the store seemed to be missing or disturbed. Darien police detectives went to the scene to examine it for evidence.
The DCA Thrift Shop is a volunteer operation run by the Darien Community Association to provide scholarship money to graduating Darien students.
Gulf Station, 180 Noroton Ave
Days later, at 5:41 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, police went to the Gulf gas station at the southeast corner of Noroton and West Avenues after a burglar alarm had been activated.
When they arrived, officers saw that the front doors had been pried open. Detectives went to the scene to examine it for evidence.
Security video recordings from the store showed two people pry open the door, go inside and rummage through several cabinets before leaving — with nothing.
