Three Darien businesses were burglarized over the past two weeks, with glass doors smashed to get inside and cash registers stolen in the most recent break-ins, both at gas stations, police said.

At 6:19 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, police were called to the Shell gas station at 805 Post Road, at the corner of Sedgwick Avenue and the Post Road. An employee had found the door broken when he arrived at 6:15 a.m.

The business’s security camera showed a male walking around the building at about 4:30 a.m. before shattering the glass with a hammer, entering and taking the cash register, which held a small amount of cash. Police detectives went to the store to examine the scene for evidence.

At 6 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, an officer on patrol was checking businesses on Noroton Avenue when he saw the front glass door had been shattered at the Noroton Service Station, at 179 Noroton Ave., the southwest corner of the Noroton and West Avenues intersection.

The owner was called and went to the business. After checking inside, the owner told officers that the cash register was missing. It had contained a small amount of cash. Police detectives went to the scene to examine it for evidence.

Just over a week before, Infinity Fitness at 264 Heights Road, was burglarized overnight, an employee found when he arrived at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10.

The employee noticed that items in the office area had been removed, and a pair of headphones was missing. As he continued to check the premises, he noticed more items had been moved. The doors were checked and revealed no signs of entry.

The headphones were valued at $250.
