Jennifer St. Jean, who ran in high school and runs now as a mom in Darien, recently won two races — a world competition in France and the 5th Avenue Mile race in New York City.

She won her age group race (40-49) at 5 minutes, 6 seconds in the 5th Avenue competition on Sept. 13, which placed her 21st out of 2,881 female runners in any age group in the race.

In mid-August she competed at the World Masters Track & Field Championships in Lyon, France, where she won the silver medal for the women’s age 40-44 1500-meter race.

Her time, 4 minutes, 37 seconds, was only three-tenths of a second slower than the woman who won the gold medal for that age group, and as of today she still is ranked second in the world for the 1500-meter race, according to the World Masters Rankings performance list for that event.

St. Jean is one of Darien’s more active moms: When she isn’t running around town (sometimes greeting the dawn), this “mother, runner and designer” is raising her two girls with her husband, designing and making her own handbags and accessories, which she sells onlineblogging and tweeting.

Correction: In an earlier version of this article, some references to Jennifer St. Jean mistakenly said “St. John.”
