You can see tents all over downtown along the Post Road
Crowds flocked along sidewalks downtown and elsewhere in Darien to pick up sale items from local businesses, join contests and learn about local organizations on Thursday, part of the three-day Darien Sidewalk Sale and Family Fun Days.
There was also fun for kids, with a bouncy house and an ongoing Where’s Waldo contest (many more events and activities for kids are scheduled for Friday and Saturday).
Kimberly Lyons of Darien started her jewelry business in May, selling Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski. She has a tent set up at the Noroton Heights Shopping Center. "It's almost like spreading a bit of joy for people who love jewelry," she said. You can find her business on the Web at touchstonecrystal.com/bluewave and, yes, that is a lot of blue on display — it's Blue Wave Country, after all.
There are fun things to do with kids today and tomorrow at the Sidewalk Sale & Family Fun Days event, and there are items on sale all around, and then there are fun items on sale for kids at the Darien Toy Box tent on the Post Road.
You can learn about what the Darien YMCA has to offer, pick up a canvas bag, enter a contest with a short survey and maybe even get that apple at the Y's tent near Darien Playhouse.
Scouting is a great way to learn leadership skills, Laura Holly will tell you at the Boy Scouts table near Darien Playhouse. She's had two boys in Cub Scouts.
Stores were on the sidewalks downtown, in the Noroton Heights Shopping Center, Goodwives Shopping Center and elsewhere around town Thursday with marked down items.
