Throughout June, Darien Library celebrates LGBTQ Pride Month through film, art, workshops, and, you guessed it, a good book.

Did you know LGBTQ Pride Month is celebrated each year in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan?

Signups to perform begin at 6:45 p.m.

All speakers/poets/comedians/performers are welcome to share their original work or a piece from a favorite LGBTQ artist.

LGBTQ Cultural Competency Training

Thursday, June 7
9:30 to 11 a.m.

  • Language and definition of terms.
  • Definitions of sexual orientation and gender identity and how the two interact.
  • The LGBTQ experience, hetero-normativity, gender binary, and privilege.
  • How to be a good ally to the LGBTQ community.

Pride in the Park

Saturday, June 9
12 to 5 p.m.
At Mathews Park

Join your librarians at the Pride in the Park festival at Mathews Park in Norwalk. We will have a tent setup for you to relax, visit with staff, pick up a new book, make a craft, and eat Skittles.

Transgender 101

Wednesday, June 20
7 to 8 p.m.

Join us for an informal, comfortable presentation on what it means to be transgender. Learn from our presenter’s personal journey, including her victories and hardships.

Pop-Up Book Group: Fun Home

Thursday, June 28
7 to 8 p.m.

Join us for a book discussion of the graphic memoir, Fun Home.
