Join us for a performance and discussion on the artistry involved in crafting some of the most well-known ballet performances. Learn how dancers are coached in preparation for unique characters in the major story ballets.

How do characters come to life in dance? What role does acting and mime play? How much rehearsal do they require? How do the characterizations get passed down from generation to generation?

Connecticut Ballet dancers will perform solos and duets from specific story ballets. Artistic Director Brett Raphael will then lead a discussion on the development of specific roles such as the ‘Sugar Plum Fairy,’ ‘Tom Sawyer,’ and ‘Titania.’ Finally, the ballet company will conduct an ‘open rehearsal’ to showcase the coaching process.
