“As the film industry goes digital, such opportunities are fewer and farther between. This may be the last IMAX-format movie filmed and projected in the incredible 70mm film format.”
“Batman v Superman” director Zack Snyder shot several sequences – some 20 minutes’ worth –with IMAX’s extremely high-resolution cameras to deliver greater scope and breathtaking image quality.
The Maritime Aquarium’s IMAX theater is the only theater in our area where the sequences filmed with IMAX cameras expand vertically to fill the entire six-story screen. (Other local IMAX theaters have smaller screens and lower-resolution digital projection.)
All of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology.
The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theater geometry and powerful digital audio, create a special environment that immerses the audience.
The first in an anticipated series of movies featuring DC Comics superheroes, “Batman v Superman” sets the two stars on a collision course fueled by their growing suspicions about each other.
The film also boasts Oscar nominees Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White; and Oscar winners Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter as Senator Finch. Plus, audiences are introduced to Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.
Richard Roeper of The Chicago Sun-Times called the film “a dark-palette feast for the eyes, with some memorable set pieces, just the right amount of dark humor, strong performances and so many inside references and hints of characters and films to come there could be an entire day of Comic-Con panels just about the spoilers and the teasers and the ‘WHOA!’ moments.”
Roeper also urged: “… and please see it on the biggest IMAX screen within 50 miles of your home if you can.”
Rolling Stone magazine labeled the movie “a colossus, the stuff that DC Comics dreams are made of.”
“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is 2.5 hours long and is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action throughout, and some sensuality.
Tickets for “Batman v Superman” at The Maritime Aquarium are $12.95 for adults, $11.95 for youth (13-17) & seniors (65+), and $10.95 for children 3-12. Maritime Aquarium members receive $1 discounts.
