The Domestic Violence Crisis Center’s legal director, Pamela Davis, has been appointed to the Fairfield County Bar Association (FCBA) Board of Directors. Part of the 25-member board’s mission is to encourage cordial relations among members of the Bar as well as cooperation with state and national agencies and organizations, which fits well with Ms. Davis’ full-time position as agency’s director of legal services. “This new association with DVCC and FCBA will benefit both organizations,” Davis said. “Many of the 850 lawyers, court clerks, law students, legal administrators, paralegals, and other professionals in the bar association are on the front lines when it comes to domestic violence.”
Domestic Violence is the Number One emergency call to law enforcement in the towns of New Canaan, Darien, Westport, Weston and Wilton.

On Wednesday, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern, citing the geographical spread of the virus. Though quickly identified and isolated, the emergence of the virus earlier this week in Goma, a major city and transit hub, heightened concerns about the spread of the deadly disease. The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Congo is now over 2,500 and continues to climb. To date over 1,600 people have died and more than 130 health workers have been infected, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

Erin Bazner Noonan, 71, of Darien passed away peacefully at her home on July 17, after a hard-fought battle with cervical cancer. Erin was born Aug. 22, 1947 in Natick, Massachusetts to Jean Marie and Martin William Bazner. She was the first of six children, including Martin W. Bazner III of Berkeley, California; Shaune Bazner of Washington, D.C. (John Yahner); Megan Brogden of Wilton (Marc Fogel); Jamie Bazner of Santa Cruz, California; and Brenan McGarrigle (Tom) of Norwell, Massachusetts. She lived most of the last 40 years in New Canaan and Darien raising a wonderful family and pursuing her many passions.
Nancy E. Festa, a resident of Darien, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 in Darien. She was a parishioner of St. John Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking as well as spending time and sharing stories with her family and friends. Nancy is survived by her son Ronald Festa of Seymour, Tennessee and two grandchildren Cody Festa and Leah Festa and three great grandchildren.

One Darien food-serving establishment received a “C” rating, the worst in the town’s A-B-C ratings system, in the most recently released inspection reports from the town Health Department. The 14 inspections took place from July 5 to 16. Nine inspections resulted in “A” ratings (the best), three more resulted in “B” ratings, and one inspection report was for a snack bar, and the Health Department doesn’t give out town ratings for those. Keep in mind that a food-serving establishment with a history of good ratings may occasionally get a poor inspection rating, occasionally the best do, and every restaurant normally gets a few things wrong. Here’s an alphabetical list of the most recently released health inspection results (an explanation of how this list is put together is immediately below it):
It seems pretty clear that Gov. Ned Lamont’s tolling idea is dead. The Republicans say “no way, never” and his own Democrats can’t muster the guts to take an up or down vote because they’re so afraid of public reaction. Oh, everyone in Hartford is still doing the usual square dance, posturing and politicking, but I doubt a special session to vote on tolls will ever happen: tolls are dead. But ‘lest the anti-toll forces should start to rejoice, they may have won this battle but the war is far from over. Because when tolls go down to defeat, there are still plenty of secondary options, none of which you (or they) will like.
Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes will perform outdoors in the latest concert of the Wednesday Nite Live series at Columbus Park in Downtown Stamford. Jake Kulak & the LowDown also will be on stage. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m., gates open at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 17 in Columbus Park. UPDATE 5:08 p.m., Wednesday: Despite the possibility of rain, the organizers said on Wednesday that the show is still planned for Columbus park: “Tonight’s show featuring Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes will be held outside in Columbus Park.” UPDATE 5:25 p.m., Wednesday: The Stamford Downtown Special Services District again said the venue hasn’t changed.

Josh Lovelace, a Knoxville, Tennessee native and member of the Grammy-nominated rock band NEEDTOBREATHE, has been making music his entire life. His grandparents loved folk songs, especially Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, both of whom wrote songs for children. Lovelace shared that love of folk music and as a young kid, would sing songs and put on shows for his family and friends.
A benefit for the Stamford-based Domestic Violence Crisis Center and Fairfield County’s Community Foundation will be held at the Nordstrom’s department store at the new Sono Collection mall in Norwalk on Thursday, Oct. 10. Tickets, for $100, are on sale now, and 100% of the price goes to the two nonprofits. “Attire: Fashionably chic. Complimentary valet will be provided,” Nordstrom said in an announcement.
98 Degrees will perform in the first Alive@Five outdoor concert in Downtown Stamford, with Ryan Clark also on stage. The concert begins at 5 p.m., gates open at 4:30, Thursday, July 18. The pop and contemporary R&B vocal group consists of four vocalists: brothers Nick and Drew Lachey, along with Justin Jeffre and Jeff Timmons.
