A Raymond Street man reported that the hard plastic “bed liner” for his 2004 Ford Ranger pickup truck was missing, and he believed it was stolen, Darien police said.
The man reported the theft on Tuesday, Oct. 18. He contacted police at 11:10 a.m., telling them that he thought the large plastic truck accessory — which fits inside the bed of the pickup, along the floor and walls, and protects it from scratches, stains and dirt — had been stolen when the truck was parked at Darien Railroad Station the night before.
Police reviewed surveillance camera records at the train station, which showed the bed liner in the truck both when it entered the parking lot at about 4 p.m., and when the man left at about midnight.
The man said a friend of his who was with him thought the bed liner wasn’t there at about midnight. Instead, police think it may have been stolen overnight or perhaps blew out of the truck at some point. It hadn’t been bolted down, the owner said.
Editor’s note: This was the only report this week from Monday’s news briefing at Darien Police Headquarters. There were no DUI arrests, motor vehicle burglaries, home burglaries, business larcenies of any type or any other incidents or crimes worth reporting on, according to police.
