Joan Ward, 81, passed away on June 21. Her funeral will be on June 28.
She was born to Stevenson and Grace Ward on Nov. 21, 1943, in New York City. Joan moved from New York City to Darien in 1950 where she spent most of her childhood, enjoying Cape Cod every summer, which truly was her happy place.
After attending Georgetown, Joan graduated from Bennett College and followed her passion for reading into working in publishing at Doubleday, where she stayed for her entire career. Joan had a passion for travel, history, and her family.
She was a very active member of the Junior League and spent her free time enjoying her love of tennis. An avid consumer of current events, Joan never missed reading the New York Times in the morning and was a great conversationalist.
Joan was always the gracious and proper host for family holidays and celebrations. Her attention to detail and etiquette made her the act to follow, and we will cherish the memories and lessons we learned.
She leaves behind her brother, Stevenson E. Ward; her sister-in-law, Sandy Ward; her nephews, Steve and Chris Ward; her niece, Kim Burt; and grandnieces and nephews.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m., June 28, 2024, at Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien, followed by burial in Bronxville, New York.
