____________________

Jack was a life-long fan of Penn State. He was an enthusiastic racquetball player at the Westport YMCA for many years.

Noroton Bay was his home for 34 years, and he loved everything about living there. It was a fantastic place for his children to grow up in, with great friendships and a beautiful spot for his sailboat.

Jack was an adventurous and skilled sailor. He enjoyed many family vacations cruising on Long Island Sound to Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. He loved entertaining friends on his boats and at his home.

The arrivals of his daughter and then of his son were the high point of his life. He treasured and admired his children, their spouses and his three precious granddaughters. At the end of his life, he was also delighted to know that a grandson was soon to be born.

The family would like to express their thanks to Luc Pierre for his compassionate care of Jack and Constellation Home Hospice for their support.

He is survived by his wife, Marion Tholine (Oare) Smith of Darien; his two children, Michael B. Smith (Jennifer) of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts and Katherine T. Murano (Glenn) of Southington; and three granddaughters: Mackenize and Alison Murano and Eisley Smith.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 5, 2018 at Noroton Presbyterian Chapel, 2011 Post Road, Darien.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to New Haven Land Trust, Schooner Program, 817 Grand Ave., Suite 101, New Haven, CT 06511.
