The Stamford Symphony on Wednesday announced a new program, “Appreciation Sundays,” to give free tickets for Sunday concerts to “worthy individuals that serve the Fairfield County community.”
For this Sunday, Oct. 14, the symphony is giving free tickets to people who work in nonprofits in Fairfield County. Veterans, health-care professionals, teachers and emergency services professionals will get free tickets at future Sunday concerts.
The symphony’s announcement wasn’t clear on whether or not volunteer firefighters are part of the program. All Darien firefighters are volunteers.
Here’s how the symphony explained the program in a news release Wednesday, Oct. 10:
At the five Sunday performances by the Orchestra in the 2018/19 season, FREE tickets will be distributed to key groups that serve us all. Staff of not-for-profit organizations, veterans, healthcare professionals, schools teachers and members of the emergency services will be recognized at each of the Sunday concerts this season.
The initiative is part of the Stamford Symphony’s new emphasis on greater community engagement. Speaking about Appreciation Sundays, President and CEO, Russell Jones said, “We are grateful for the work these dedicated people do on our behalf. This is our way of giving something back.
We hope a few hours of relaxation, with a friend or spouse, listening to extraordinary orchestral music, will provide an oasis of calm in their hectic lives. We are looking forward to making new connections and friends.”
The five appreciation Sundays this 2018-2019 season are:
- Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 – Not-for-Profits
- Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018 – Veterans
- Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019 – Heathcare professionals
- Sunday, March 10, 2019 – Teachers
- Sunday, April 14, 2019 – Emergency services professionals
