Michael V. Hannigan Jr. 87, passed away peacefully at home, on Flag Day, June 14, surrounded by his four daughters.

He was born in Greenwich and attended Greenwich public schools. He received his bachelor’s degree from Arnold College in 1950, and his Masters Degrees in Physical education and educational guidance in 1954 and 1958, from New York University.
He also proudly served as a member of the US Marine Corps. Michael taught and coached in Greenwich from 1954 through 1967 at Greenwich Public schools, after which he worked as director of physical education, health and safety in Fairfield.
He accepted a position in Darien, in 1979, as director of physical education and athletics, retiring in 1987. From 1958 to 1975 he worked summers as director of junior programs at Riverside Yacht Club.

After that, he and his family enjoyed their summers camping and traveling across Europe and the British Isles. He enjoyed hiking, biking and staying active with a variety of activities with his family, both here and abroad.
Mike is survived by his four daughters, Patricia, Cathleen, Colleen and June; one granddaughter Jordan, and two step granddaughters, Emmanuelle and Stephanie.
