‘Unexpected Beauty,’ a Two-Day Greenwich Garden Club Flower Show

Unexpected Beauty, a GCA Flower Show, a free event hosted by the Greenwich Garden Club this Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15, will feature exhibits in floral design, horticulture, photography and “botanical arts,” the organizers say.

A boutique will feature unexpectedly beautiful and unique items.

Also, you can buy raffle tickets. The raffle will feature a Craig Burrows print and a pair of Campagna “Paris” outdoor garden urns.

Proceeds from the flower show will go to the Greenwich Garden Club Civic Improvement Fund. Chairwomen are Jane Dunn, Nina King and Susan Schieffelin. The Greenwich Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club of America.

Presentations at the Show

“Fascinating Forums” (tickets available) will be offered over the two days including a floral design workshop, a sound bath experience, a look into the magical world of mushrooms and an opportunity to learn how to create a magical moon garden, and more.

Free: Author/Photographer Craig Burrows

Author/photographer Craig Burrows will be at the show with his latest book, What the Bees See.

Craig’s new book, “What The Bees See,” is a comprehensive look into the amazing science of bees. This book showcases mesmerizing ultraviolet-induced visible fluorescence (UVIVF) photography of flowers and nature and offers fascinating research that explores every aspect of our relationship with honeybees.

Craig P. Burrows is a botanical photographer specializing in ultraviolet-induced visible fluorescence [UVIVF] photography.

His work has been published in National Geographic Magazine and licensed by Apple, commissioned by international companies including Manuka Health and Lycored, and exhibited at many worldwide institutions including the Natural History Museum Toulouse, MoCA Taipei, and Artis-Groote Museum in the Netherlands.

The raffle will feature a Craig Burrows print.

Join Glenn Shaw, head of Claridges Flower School, as she shares floral design trends from London and behind-the-scenes ideas, tips, and tricks used at major flower exhibitions like The Chelsea Flower Show, Blenheim Palace, Kew Gardens, and more!

Master Gardener Glenn Shaw has been surrounded by flowers her entire life. From a very early age, Glenn was arranging blooms in the kitchen, for dinner parties and events with her mother, a master Gardener and Master Naturalist.

Fast forward to her move to London in 2021, Glenn trained to work on, large-scale floral designs and has continued her training in the art of Ikebana. In addition to teaching sustainable floral design in London, she has used her skills on an entrance gate to the Chelsea Flower Show, Chelsea in Bloom displays, competed and won a competition at Blenheim Palace, constructed large-scale animals for Kew Gardens, and has freelanced for countless luxury floral design brands. Glenn currently serves as the Director of Claridge’s Flower School in London.

The garden show takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 14, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 15 at Christ Church Parish Hall, 254 Putnam Ave., Greenwich.
