After Darien police were told on Wednesday afternoon, June 19, that a 74-year-old man at the Tokeneke Beach Club was acting unruly and possibly intoxicated, officers went to the club and arrested him on a charge of driving while under the influence.
Police gave this additional information about the incident and arrest:
Police were called at about 2:40 p.m. The man showed signs that he was intoxicated, and he had a small cut on his arm. The police announcement did not say where the man was driving while intoxicated. Police had him take a series of standard field sobriety tests, which he failed to perform adequately. He was arrested.
His blood-alcohol level was tested at Darien Police Headquarters twice. The first result showed a level of 0.2211; the second, 0.2018. The legal limit is 0.08.
The man, a resident of Marlborough, Massachusetts, was told to appear at a later date in state Superior Court in Stamford.
