The leak from the broken sewer line at Weed Beach was fixed at 2:30 a.m., Monday, and crews continued “site restoration” until dawn, First Selectman Jon Zagrodzky announced at about 6 p.m., Monday.

About 100,000 gallons of sewage was spilled, Zagrodzky announced on Instagram. “Fortunately, nearly all of it was removed by vacuum trucks from a containment area the work crews created, with no (as far as we can tell) flows into residential areas or Long Island Sound,” he wrote.

He added, “Reporting to DEEP [the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection] and other regulators is in progress.”

Zagrodzky posted this picture with his Instagram post from Weed Beach. Presumably it’s where the excavation was dug or the containment pool was created. Overnight, crews cleaned up those areas, he said.

Sewer line leak at Weed Beach fixed! Repair work finished at 2:30 a.m. last night, with site restoration continuing until day-break. Some clean-up remains, so please stay away from the affected area, which is marked off with Police tape.

Estimates are that about 100K gallons of sewage leaked. Fortunately, nearly all of it was removed by vacuum trucks from a containment area the work crews created, with no (as far as we can tell) flows into residential areas or Long Island Sound. Reporting to DEEP and other regulators is in progress.
