William Tredick McIntire II, 89, formerly of Darien, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015 at Atria Assisted Living in Stamford. He was the husband of Patricia (Mickleburgh) McIntire, and they had been married for 61 years.

Bill was born in Red Bank, New Jersey on Dec. 18, 1925, son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Ewing) McIntire. He graduated from Cranford (NJ) High School, did a post-graduate year at the Tilton School in New Hampshire, and then graduated from Harvard with the Class of 1947 as part of the Navy’s V-12 Program. He also studied French at the University of Geneva and Foreign Policy at Oxford, where he met his wife, Patricia, in the summer of 1948.

He spent his career working on Wall Street in fixed income sales, beginning at Dominick & Dominick in 1949, and working at several other firms over the years before joining Kleinwort, Benson Inc. where he served as President of their U.S. subsidiary.

After his retirement from Kleinwort, Benson, Bill and Pat spent several months in both Botswana and Zimbabwe, where Bill assisted the local governments with development of their respective financial markets, under the auspices of the Retired Executives Consulting Corps.

Bill lived in Darien for 53 years and was active in local government, serving as the town’s Treasurer for a number of years after his retirement from Wall Street. He was a long-time member of the Tokeneke Club and played tennis there regularly until three years ago.

He was also the past President of the Darien Red Cross as well as very active in a number of other organizations including the Darien Senior Mens Singing Group, the Darien Republican Club, the Darien Historical Society, the Harvard Club of New York City, the Bond Club of New York, the New York Board of the S.I.A., India House, the Foreign Policy Association, the Pilgrims Society of the United States, and Holland Lodge 48 (Masonic Order).

He will be sorely missed as a loving husband, caring and supportive father and father-in-law, inspirational grandfather and great-grandfather. Bill leaves behind his wife Patricia, their two sons; William Tredick McIntire III married to Elisabeth and Henry Dickson McIntire married to Dawn Marie. A large extended family; granddaughters: Abby, Hannah, Diana Grace and Liza, grandsons: Peter, Gordon, Samuel and Ryan, great grandsons: William, Cutler and Elijah.

A Memorial service will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015 in New Canaan at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan. Burial at Spring Grove Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. Funeral services have been entrusted to Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan, CT 06840.
