Here’s what’s open, what’s closed, what’s closing early and even some places staying open late in and around Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2015.

Wednesday (the Day Before the Day Before Christmas)
- Wednesday is predicted to be the busiest traffic day of the holiday season.
- Metro-North: During our heaviest travel times (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), we will provide longer and extra trains on all lines. See a regular timetable for details.
- Darien Public Schools close early.
- Darien Nature Center closes early, at 1 p.m.
Thursday, Christmas Eve
Open regular hours (at least officially)
- Darien Transfer Station/Recycling Center (that is, the Dump)

- Connecticut state courts
- U.S. government offices
- Post offices
Open, but closing early
- Barrett Bookstore expects to close at 4 p.m., “unless somebody’s banging on the door.” (But don’t bang too hard — it’s glass.)
- Darien Community Association closes at 3 p.m.
- The Department of Motor Vehicles office in Norwalk will open early at 7:45 a.m. (instead of 9:15 a.m.) and close early at 4 p.m. (90 minutes early)

Transportation
- Metro-North trains: Early Getaway Service: “Our regular weekday schedule will feature more cars on trains at key travel times and 18 additional early getaway trains ([…] 10 the New Haven Line) departing Grand Central between 12 noon and 4:10 p.m. See a regular timetable for details.”
- CTtransit buses (which serve Darien and Stamford) will operate on a regular schedule.

Christmas Day
