On Monday, April 1 and again on the following Thursday, wallets were stolen from the purses of shoppers at Trader Joe’s in Darien and used at stores in the SoNo Collection in Norwalk, Darien police said.
In the first case, the victim was shopping at about 12:45 p.m. when she realized her wallet was missing. Before she could cancel her credit cards she got a text alert from one of the credit card companies telling her about a fraudulent purchase at the Apple Store in the mall. Another alert told her that there was an attempt to use one of her cards at the Nordstrom store there.
Three days later, on Thursday, April 4, a very similar incident happened at the same store: Just before 6 p.m., a woman said, she noticed her wallet was missing from her purse. She received an alert on her phone telling her a fraudulent charge was made on one of her credit cards at the same Apple Store. The woman reported the incident to police the next day.
Police are still investigating each incident.
