A driver unfamiliar with the neighborhood turned onto the New Canaan Branch train tracks from Hoyt Street and somehow couldn’t drive back out — then an oncoming train hit the vehicle at about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to Metro-North.

No one was injured in the accident, including four people on the train, said Nancy Gamerman, a Metro-North spokeswoman. Before the train hit the car, the driver and a passenger were trying to push it out of the way, she said. The two were able to get themselves well out of the way before impact.

According to Gamerman, the woman who was driving the car told police that she had made a mistake when following GPS directions in the neighborhood. She was issued a ticket for having a car on the tracks.
