The man, whose last known address was in Stamford, was issued the restraining order by a judge in state Superior Court in Stamford on June 29. The order stated in part: “Do not contact the protected party in any manner” and “do not threaten, abuse, harass, follow, interfere or stalk the protected person.”

At about 9:10 a.m., Aug. 1, the woman went to Police Headquarters and told police that, according to a police news release, “she had received a notification email from a popular online app indicating that [the man] started ‘following’ the victim on line on or about July 18.” The woman said that the man threatened her and also had been seen driving by a department store numerous times on July 2, when she was shopping there.

She told police he was verbally and physically abusive throughout the relationship, and in New Rochelle, N.Y., he physically assaulter her in 2014, which led to an order of protection from a New York state judge. The woman moved to Connecticut after breaking off the relationship in February 2016. The protective order required him not to contact the woman, but she told Darien police last August that she had received at least six calls from him, including one on Aug. 12.
