Updated 4:46 p.m. Wednesday, with information from Superintendent Dan Brenner and elsewhere. The Darien Board of Education on Tuesday approved appointing Shelley Somers, a middle school principal in Greenwich, as the next Middlesex Middle School principal, starting in late August. Superintendent Dan Brenner said Wednesday that Somers’ strengths as a candidate overcame concerns some trouble Somers had earlier in her career when she was owner of a daycare center in which a sleeping child was left on a bus during a field trip. The Board of Education’s approval was unanimous. Somers has been principal of Central Middle School in Greenwich since 2009 and last year was named Connecticut PTA middle school principal of the year by her school’s parent teacher association, based on excelling in “communiction, community involvement and professionalism.”

Middlesex Middle School (MMS) has a new, true “Blue” champion wandering the halls of the Hollow Tree Ridge Road campus. The school’s mascot — the dragon — has gotten a makeover this school year courtesy of members of the MMS Student Council. Alongside the move from a green dragon to a blue one, the student council sponsored a Mascot Design Contest. Aqua team student Keely O’Shea had the winning design (pictured in Blue’s hands above [editor’s note: The district website, where we found this announcement, cuts the bottom part of the picture off]) which will be used on advertisements and T-shirts. “Middlesex has always had a dragon mascot.

Health Director David Knauf later said an item of equipment wasn’t keeping food at the right temperature, so the equipment was relpaced. Darienite.com previously reported on that inspection:

“Hamburgers and tater tots weren’t hot enough at the Tokeneke School cafeteria on Tuesday when a Darien Health Department sanitarian showed up for an inspection, according to the department.

Update 5:31 p.m., Monday:

The school district has made some changes to the bus route schedules by adding back some stops that had been removed in a new scheduling system. Superintendent of Schools Dan Brenner says the changes are “very limited.” The school district website will have updated information, he said, although as of this point the information on changes to bus route schedules is difficult to find on the website. (We just looked, and we couldn’t find it.) The information should be easier to find starting Tuesday, Brenner said. Original article:

Here’s the 2015-2016 Middlesex Middle School bus route schedule from the school district:

“2015-2016 Route times are estimated and will vary particularly in the beginning of the school year, during inclement weather and traffic congestion on I-95.”
